Community Impact Scholarship

Scholarship Amount: $2,500 awarded annually

 

The BCEF Community Impact Scholarship is established to recognize and support a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated meaningful leadership, service and commitment to improving their community. The scholarship honors students whose actions have made a measurable or lasting difference in the lives of others.

What is Community Impact?

Eligibility

For purposes of this scholarship, “community impact” may include, but is not limited to:

 

  • Leadership in a nonprofit, school, faith-based, or civic organization

  • Creation or expansion of a service project, initiative, or program

  • Advocacy or organizing efforts addressing a community need

  • Long-term volunteer commitment with demonstrated outcomes

  • Innovative solutions to challenges affecting youth, families, or neighborhoods

  • Impact may be local, regional or school-based and may occur through formal or informal means.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a graduating senior from Glenwood High School

  2. Plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or technical institution in the upcoming academic year

  3. Demonstrate significant community involvement, leadership or service that extend beyond required service hours for groups or clubs

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  1. Completed Scholarship Application Form: Apply online.

  2. Multimedia Submission - Your submission should address: 

    • Community issue or need that was served

    • Applicant’s role and action steps

    • Impact of their contribution

    • How the experience affected their future

    • Your post-graduation goals​

  3. Letter of recommendation from faculty, counselor, community leader or organizational supervisor who can attest to the applicant’s service and impact

  4. An official or unofficial high school transcript

  5. Proof of acceptance or intent to enroll in a postsecondary institution (may be submitted after selection)

Multimedia Submission examples include but are not limited to:

• Video no longer than five minutes

• Power Point no longer than (15) slides

• Written piece no longer than (500) words

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Community Impact and Leadership (40%)

  • Multimedia Submission (20%)

  • Commitment to Service (20%)

  • Resilience (10%)

  • Recommendation (10%)

Selection Process

 

  1. Applications must be submitted by April 1.

  2. You will receive a notification of receipt via email

  3. Applications will be reviewed by the BCEF Scholarship Selection Committee, appointed by the BCEF Board

  4. Committee members shall recuse themselves from reviewing applications should a conflict of interest exist

  5. The committee’s recommendation will be final upon approval by the BCEF Board or its designee

  6. Scholarship winner will be announced at the Senior Awards Ceremony in May

 

Disbursement of Funds

  • Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s postsecondary institution upon verification of enrollment

  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books or other educational expenses

Amendment of Criteria

Criteria may be amended by the BCEF Board at any time to ensure alignment with the foundation’s mission and goals
